Use of the Blog
Greetings all,
I promote the use of this blog for communication and organization, as well as comments, etc. Please post, and give us feedback. We have lots to do this semester, and we MUST do it together.
All the best,
Andrew

Upcoming BGSA Projects
In semi-chronological order:
1. Pumpkin day. Hosted by Lei and others:
The objective of Pumpkin day is to capture the halloween spirit. We intend to have a pie contest, pumpkin carving, perhaps hot apple cider, and anything else you suggest. This should be an event for all ages!
*A suggested donation will be requested for those who participate in pumpkin carving, and pie eating. Food donators are donation exempt.
2. Coffee hour, outdo your neighbor campaign:
We challenge all labs to "outdo" their neighbor or rival labs. The lab that hosts the Botany GSA coffee hour and raises the most money will receive departmental acclaim, and the prized title of the best coffee peddler.
3. Fundraising campaign:
Botany GSA representatives and volunteers will commence solicitations of monetary donations as well as products that can be auctioned off on our upcoming ebay store
4. Glassware galore:
The Botany GSA received a considerable chemistry and laboratory glassware donation from the Sunkist company in Ontario. We will be opening an ebay store to sell premium glassware at a cost price very soon. Keep posted.
5. The coveted Botany shirts:
Although neglected last year we haven't forgotten to produce the coveted Botany Department shirts. An industry animator is collaborating with us for the creation of a unique shirt that you won't forget. The draft design will be released soon.
More to come

Coffee Hour suggestions
This email is from Lynn:
There is a good bit of money in the coffee hour can that you'll want to empty, so people will be encouraged to donate more.
Our coffee hour was pretty successful! Perhaps you could make a sign regarding suggested donations ($2 if bagel and coffee, $1 for coffee etc.)
FYI, when someone agrees to guest-host, it's really important for a GSA person to be there to help, or contact the lab in advance to tell them what to do. Luckily I knew how to get the stuff out of the cabinet etc, but the Santiago lab, hosting in two weeks, does not know how. They're making a donation of time and money and so please get in touch with hosts in advance.
As well, since the ecology labs have been challenging eachother to out-do one-another in coffee hours, I suggest you issue the challenge to the rest of the department to spur more guest hosts.
The GSA person just needs to be there to help set up and then clean up afterwards.
